Sure I like the ocean
I like to look at it
From the shore
Oh, I hear the critics
Whose answers to why
The mountains should be climbed
Or the seas should be sailed
Is always “because its there”
They’ll talk about the view from on high
With salt dusted and dried upon their lips
And remember how the waves carried them high
Depositing them in a swirl of surf
Before they recovered on the warmth of the beach
But I’m content
To know that the sea holds many mysteries
And the mountains many vistas
That will remain mysterious
And unseen to me

I’ve got my hands full
Standing here
Contemplating the mystery of the dirt
Under my feet
And uttering a silent prayer of thanksgiving
That I’ve conquered nothing
But that the mystery is conquering me

Tad,
Beautiful...in many ways, this explains my the last post I wrote. I just reflect and contemplate the dirt between my feet, realizing that I have conquered nothing...and continue to accept that the mystery of it all is constantly conquering me. There is a beauty in that.
Thanks.

There is a children's book titled something like The Pirate Who Tried to Conquer the Moon.
He fought with sword dark into the night, but eventually as his boat traveled closer to the big yellow moon...the Moon conquered him. Good posts.

Wonderful. Thank you, Tad. That really is the feeling of the ocean... the mystery conquering me.
Gotta wonder about those people who think they've conquered the sea or the mountain. God must laugh.

Thanks for the feedback friends. The sea has always spoke to me about the mystery of God. However, when I stand on the shore I've never really felt troubled by that mystery. For whatever reason the mystery nurtures me, assures me, makes me feel as though I'm in my proper place.
God's mystery has welcomed me more than it has troubled me. Though, I know this is not true of everyone's experience. And so I pray that God will always show God self enough to welcome all, to give those that need a different glimpse or assurance, exactly what they need.
